Getting you moving again with myofascial treatments
Benefit from optimal muscular recovery with our combined therapeutic approach
Sports rehab treatments
What it is: Whether you’re competing in sports or training to progress, our sports rehab can help with managing and healing following injury or surgery. Our innovative and non-invasive sports rehab therapies:
- Guide you to achieve your goals safely
- Teach you about body mechanics and the source of your injury, and
- Give you tools and strategies to prevent it from happening again.
How it works: Whether you come to Motion Medicine post-surgery or immediately after injury, your Motion Therapist will review any diagnostic results, do a comprehensive physical evaluation, and design a treatment plan around your injury, fitness, and day-to-day life. Every plan is different but may include:
- Manual therapy to increase your flexibility and range of motion, including myofascial therapy to reduce scar tissue
- Stretches to improve your balance and mobility, and
- Strengthening exercises to support the injured and surrounding areas.
Why sports rehab with Motion Medicine? Our Motion Therapists deliver optimal clinical outcomes using non-invasive interventions.
We focus on recovery and prevention, identifying and treating motor deficiencies, biomechanical errors and imbalances that may contribute to injury.
In 1:1 sessions we’ll work with your body’s self-healing mechanisms to restore optimal function, reach new levels of performance, and reduce future risk of injury.
Myofascial therapy
What it is: We care for our muscles, but what about the tissue that holds them together? Myofascial therapy focuses on your muscles and the tissue that enables them to contract and stretch, known as the fasica.
Repetitive motion (such as running or computer work), injury, or even being in a fixed position (such as sitting) for long periods can cause the fascia to form adhesions and thicken. This decreases flexibility and impacts how well (or not) our muscles function.
How it works: Excessive strain on a muscle, ligament or tendon can cause myofascial pain – a chronic pain that originates from the fascia tissues. Myofascial therapy uses a variety of pressure and massage techniques to help release tension causing the strain, alleviating pain, and improving muscle function and movement.
Why myofascial therapy? Myofascial therapy is an effective remedy for relieving pain from muscular tension. It increases bloodflow, helping with tissue recovery to:
- Relieve tightness and pain in the shoulders, neck, back, hips, glutes, and hamstrings
- Reduce inflammation and restriction to restore normal muscular function, and
- Limit injuries by preventing overcompensation of one muscle for another.
In a nutshell, it frees up our bodies to move the way they’re designed to.
Deep tissue sports massage
What it is: Our deep tissue sports massage goes beyond the superficial, targeting the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to relieve pain and tension.
It’s a treatment that goes beyond simply reducing pain and inflammation. By placing a focus on the myofascial, we’re addressing the cause of much of the discomfort associated with sports activity so you can improve your athletic performance over the long term.
How it works: Our myofascia-focused approach ensures that you’re getting the most effective treatment for your specific needs. While this fibrous web surrounds and supports your muscles, it can also be a critical cause of muscular tension. By reducing this tension we’re improving your flexibility and mobility and reducing the likelihood of injury.
Why deep tissue sports massage? Improved circulation ensures a healthy circulation of blood to your muscles and tendons that:
- Removes metabolic waste
- Breaks up scar tissue and adhesions, making muscles and tendons move more efficiently
- Prevents injury
- Enhances your competitive output, and
- Reduces recovery time.
Dry needling
What it is: A unique medical technique, dry needling is a non-invasive treatment often used to treat pain from sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel, chronic pain, and other conditions.
How it works: By inserting sterile, stainless-steel needles into the specific trigger points of the muscle or fascia, we break down adhesions, increase blood flow, and reduce inflammation. The result? Improved range of motion and flexibility, as well as the relief of pain and tension.
Why dry needling? It’s a gentle technique that can break down adhesions and tension in the myofascia to help alleviate pain and loosen tight muscles. Reducing inflammation also helps prevent future myofascial pain and injury.
Dry needling is especially helpful for:
- Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) by decreasing inflammation and improving range of motion
- Plantar fasciitis by reducing inflammation and providing relief from pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome by reducing nerve compression and providing relief from pain
- Chronic pain by reducing inflammation, improving function, and reducing tension.
Cupping
(Myofascial Decompression)
What it is: Cupping, also known as Myofascial Decompression, is effective for a variety of ailments. At Motion Medicine we utilise it to improve the flow of blood to muscle tissue, fascia, and skin.
How it works: We create negative pressure (suction) on the skin, which stretches tissue in a different way than typical massage compression does. Encouraging tight muscles to loosen relieves pain, improves circulation, and reduces inflammation.
Why cupping? Used on its own or as one part of your Motion Therapy to enhance the treatment, cupping is ideal for softening tight muscles, lifting connective tissue and breaking up adhesions. It not only promotes the healing of chronic injury sites but also pain relief and increased flexibility.
Cupping is especially helpful for:
- Reducing inflammation in sports-related injuries, carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, and more, providing much-needed pain relief
- Lowering ITB tension to reduce symptoms of runner’s knee, plantar fasciitis, and other injuries.
- Improving rotator cuff movement
- Neck stiffness and headaches
- Hip restrictions and limitations in movement.
What our clients say
Since starting treatment with Charlie, the results have done wonders for not just in the gym but in everyday life. Going about day-to-day activities pain & tightness free is something I have been able to achieve with Charlie.
Not only does Charlie provide treatment to areas you need but educate you on what his doing and why. Cannot highly recommended Charlie and his services.
Prior to starting my treatment sessions with Charlie, I had an injury preventing me from running. Charlie’s consultation was thorough as he sought to understand my lifestyle and training goals. He was able to identify other impacting areas and provided advice on how I could reduce recovery time through stretches at home.
After the first session I felt relief from the injury pain and soon returned successfully to running. Charlie’s ongoing advice and sessions have helped me to maintain being injury free and has improved performance in other training.
Motion Medicine is AMAZING! Charlie is the BEST in the business!
